DON'T WAIT TOO LONG:

The Social Security Administration has a strict time limit of 60 days for filing appeals. It is important to pursue any possible appeal promptly. If you have applied for benefits and your claim was denied, contact Mathis & Mathis today for a free, no-obligation consultation.

Request for Reconsideration

Filing a Request for Reconsideration

A very high percentage of applications for Social Security disability benefits are denied at the original application stage.

At Mathis & Mathis, P.C., we encourage our clients to keep fighting for their rights — even if they have received a denial letter after an application for Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

You have the right to file several different appeals if your application for SSDI or SSI is denied. The first appeals stage is called the request for reconsideration.

60 Days: If you want to appeal the denial of your application for SSDI or SSI benefits, you must file the request for reconsideration within 60 days of the date of your denial letter.

The request for reconsideration is not a difficult step in the SSDI and SSI appeals process, but it is necessary step. The request for reconsideration is almost the same as the initial SSDI or SSI application — the primary difference is that your information is analyzed by a different person in the Social Security Administration office.

Seek Legal Help With a Request for Reconsideration

Receiving a denial letter is a good indication that it may be time to seek help with your SSDI or SSI appeal from an attorney or certified claimant's representative. At Mathis & Mathis, located in Arlington, Virginia, SSDI and SSI claims are the sole focus of our law practice. Unlike many other law firms, our family-run law firm works exclusively on behalf of disability benefits claimants in SSDI and SSI cases. We have extensive contacts and experience with medical providers and judges in the area.

Our law firm was founded in 1985, by a former attorney for the Social Security Administration. Although Dallas Mathis has recently retired from active practice, our law firm still subscribes to his philosophy of providing high-quality legal service to disability benefits claimants.
